Personal data collection machines: Mozilla analyzed prayer apps

According to the researchers, this is not about one or a few apps, but about the entire category as a whole. They have worse personal data privacy protection than many other types of services.

non-specific prayers

The vast majority of apps improve mental health and prayer, according to a new analysis Track and share various personal data and take advantage of users’ most confidential personal thoughts and feelings such as mood, mental state and biometric data.

  • The team analyzed 32 mental health and prayer programs.
  • Of those apps, 29 received a Privacy not included alert that the team was concerned about how the app was handling user data.
  • Their privacy policy is pretty vague, allowing cheaters to circumvent certain provisions.

Many apps also have weak security practices that allow users to create accounts with weak passwords. Considering the extent to which such programs can contain personal information, this is a bad feature.

The list of worst by these criteria was:

  • better Help,
  • senper,
  • Wow,
  • Better Stop Suicide,
  • dua.com,
  • Conversation area.

The Mozilla team, which owns Firefox, repeatedly asked the companies behind these programs to ask about their policies, but only three responded. Experts say all these programs work like “data sucking machines” while disguised as mental health programs.
