NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg arrived in Ukraine this Thursday During their first visit to the country since the invasion launched by Russia in February 2022, they told EFE Sources of the Atlantic Alliance.

“The NATO Secretary General is in Ukraine. We will provide more information as soon as possible.” Allied sources pointed, without giving details, to the agenda of the Norwegian politician in Ukraine.

NATO has repeatedly stressed that, as an organization not at war with Russia regardless of their practical assistance and non-lethal support, including fuel, medical supplies, mobile satellite systems or pontoon bridges.

Until now, Stoltenberg did not travel to Ukraine despite the fact that the leaders of the countries-members of the Alliance have repeatedly visited Kyiv.

Ukraine is one of the main problems, despite NATO and he will again be the protagonist of the next summit of allied leaders, to be held in July in Vilnius, to which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been invited.

At the last meeting of the Alliance foreign ministers in Brussels on April 4, they called on Ukraine to continue reforms, “even in difficult times” due to the aggressive war launched by Russia, to move closer to the Euro-Atlantic space.

At that meeting, a few years later, there was also a meeting NATO-Ukraine Commission, main platform for dialogue between the two sides.

Ministers agreed develop a multi-year initiative to support Ukraine, help ensure the country’s deterrence and defense, convert Soviet-era equipment and doctrine to NATO standards, and improve interoperability.

Stoltenberg said on this occasion that it is demonstrates NATO’s “long-term commitment” to Ukraine and that it “brings” the country “toward the Euro-Atlantic family” as allies remain “committed to NATO’s open door policy,” he stressed.

Ukraine officially submitted an application for membership in the North Atlantic Alliance in September last year. in a full invasion of Russia and seeks to get a roadmap from Allied leaders at the Vilnius summit.

NATO insists that the “first step” and “precondition” of any discussion about future membership in the Ukrainian Alliance is to ensure that the country prevails as a sovereign and independent state.
