RDNA 3 promises to offer significant improvements to the integrated graphics found in AMD APUs, and according to tests conducted by the ETA PRIME YouTube channel, it looks like the processor. AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS with Radeon 780M graphicsimplemented in the ASUS TUF A15 notebook, which also includes a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card.

The AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS was presented at CES 2023. It is based on the Zen 4 architecture and, as we have already said, its integrated graphics is a Radeon 780M based on RDNA 3, the architecture used by the dedicated graphics of the RX 7000 series from the same brand. According to tests carried out by ETA PRIME and v in combination with 32GB DDR5 RAM including the hardware, the Radeon 780M is capable of offering a satisfying 1080p experience, though rarely with ultra graphics settings unless it’s a title a few years older.

Without further ado, let’s break down the performance data for the ETA PRIME at 1080p with the CPU set to 80 watts:

• Counterstrike: Global Offensive: 130 FPS average with high graphics settings.
• GTA V: 81 FPS on high settings.
• Force Horizon 5: 86 FPS in high quality.
• Fortnite: 78 FPS with medium settings.
• Doom Everlasting: 83 FPS in medium quality.
• Horizon Zero Dawn: 69 FPS with performance boost settings.
• Call of Duty Modern Warfare: 106 FPS with recommended graphics settings and FSR set to performance mode.
• Cyberpunk 2077: 70 FPS with a graphics configuration that combines aspects in medium quality with others in low quality.

ETA PRIME put the ASUS TUF A15 into performance mode with ASUS Armory-Crate. In this context, it is rather difficult to translate these results to a mini-PC with a hybrid console format (handhelds), as the processors of these devices are generally limited to 15 to 35 watts, depending on the case.

Another interesting detail about the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS is that it seems to be easy overclockableor at least on a YouTube channel they had no problems overclocking graphics run at 3GHz. The graphics card can be clocked up to 3.25GHz, but this amount led to stability issues when running Cyberpunk 2077. The drivers aren’t fully functional yet, so games like Spider-Man PC ports weren’t going to work.

As we can see, the Radeon 780M integrated graphics is an interesting model for inclusion in devices such as Intel NUC-like pocket computers and mini-PCs (at least when they were really small).
