ROCK Robotic, a company specializing in mapping with LiDAR sensors, has unveiled its new 3D Mapping System, R3 and R3 Pro. Designed for commercial surveying and mapping, the systems offer advanced hardware components for 3D data collection and accurate photogrammetry.
In March, Brazilians transferred over BRL 1.2 trillion per pixel.
R3 (ROCK 3) and R3 Pro (ROCK 3 Pro) have integration with DJI drones, like DJI M300 via Skyport connection. The ROCK Robotic system is equipped with a survey grade GNSS receiver and a tactical grade IMU. The R3 PRO model is equipped with a Hesai Pandar XT32 transducer, while the more affordable R3 model is equipped with a Hesai Pandar XT16 transducer. LiDAR sensors also include 26 megapixel camera for capturing high resolution RGB images.

Mission planning can be done using the DJI Smart Controller with the ROCK Pilot app. The R3 and R3 Pro also offer additional advanced SLAM (Simultaneous Mapping and Positioning) capabilities for mapping on the ground or in areas with weak GNSS signals. Finally, the sensor comes with ROCK Desktop software, which makes it easy to manage and visualize the collected data. With ROCK Desktop, users can import, view and manage new LiDAR points. The software also allows you to share data and offers several tools to make it easier to use.

ROCK Robotic CEO Harrison Knoll says the R3 and R3 PRO sensors are more advanced than previous versions. Lighter devices with greater data collection accuracy, combined with desktop software, simplify the workflow. “We want surveyors and cartographers to have the easiest possible workflow while getting the best results and delivery. From the moment you’re in the field flying your drone to the moment you send shipments to your customer, ROCK makes it as easy as possible,” he commented. Knoll.

With robust technology, 3D LiDAR sensors from ROCK Robotic make work in agriculture and construction easier. Obviously, such an advanced device will also be expensive. According to the ROCK Robotic website, the R3 Pro costs $30,000 and is designed for large-scale planning and construction.
