Hyundai has revealed the details of its plan to create a lunar rover. The device, which weighs approximately 70 kg, will be a platform on which scientific equipment is installed. Presumably, some mechanism for taking soil samples will appear in its composition. Power will be provided by the traction battery, which will be charged by the solar panels.

The device will provide radiation protection and a thermoregulation system that will protect against large temperature changes. The rover will use unmanned technologies already implemented in Hyundai/Kia cars.

The finished prototype of the Hyundai moon rover should appear in 2024, after which it will continue testing. The company does not specify what mission the device will perform on the Moon, but previously NASA announced its intention to send astronauts to the moon in 2025 or 2026. Given the close ties between South Korea and the United States, it’s reasonable to think that the Korean device will go to the moon with an American rocket.
