Google adds programming skills to Bard. The AI ​​assistant can generate, clarify or correct code in twenty programming languages.

According to Google, one of the most requested features from Bard’s early testers was one of the most requested features, although there are many other artificial tools out there today. Bard now has knowledge of twenty popular programming languages ​​including C++, Go, Java, Javascript, Python and Typescript. These additional features are possible because Google recently developed a new version of Bard based on the more powerful PaLM language model.

With the help of Bard you can generate code, clarify code parts or find and fix errors in code. Bard is also able to spot bugs in self-generated code if you point out to the AI ​​that you think the code isn’t entirely correct. After that, Bard will also be able to write functions for Google Sheets.

Bard’s programming capabilities are similar to those of ChatGPT and Copilot, which build on OpenAI’s GPT models. However, be careful when using these tools, as AI-generated code doesn’t always produce the desired results. Academic research shows that ChatGPT often produces insecure code and doesn’t fix it until you specifically request it. So Google reiterates the warning that Bard isn’t perfect and that you should always thoroughly review the codes he creates before running them.

If you want access to Bard, you have to be patient. A month after the waiting list opened, we’re still getting the message that Bard isn’t available in our country. The question is whether we are missing a lot: Google employees describe the AI ​​assistant as “rather useless than useless” and as a “morbid liar”. The Verge also concluded after a comparative test that Bard is less accurate than ChatGPT and Bing.
