The vehicle began development in 2018 and marks the debut of the automaker in the automotive segment, becoming the first product to be launched on the market. According to analysis by The Verge, the features should appeal to demanding drivers. With a height of 1,828 mm, a length of 5,130 mm and a width of 2,006 mm, the SUV is an imposing vehicle with pulling force up to 5.3 t and 141 liters of boot space.

In addition to all the power, the car offers a high-quality interior design with a 15.6-inch display powered by Unreal Engine, Epic Games’ graphics engine widely used in games. The car has a native navigation system, without support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The display shows rendered and animated images of the vehicle with precise characteristics, changing visual effects depending on the driving mode. In addition, Spotifym TuneIn and Tidal are built into the display.

The front seats are heated and ventilated, as is the steering wheel. The audio system consists of 19 speakers covering the entire length of the car. The car is equipped with eight USB-C ports, electrical outlets, wireless charging and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Snow mode

The Rivian R1S is equipped with an 835 horsepower engine capable of accelerating to 100 km/h in just 3 seconds. In addition, the electric car has a Snow Mode, which makes it easier to drive an SUV on snowy roads. Steering mode softens pedal response and introduces new brake setting to reduce wheel slip. With standard air suspension, the car offers up to 15 cm of height adjustment, making it easier to overcome obstacles and snowdrifts.

At the maximum setting, the wheels and suspension of the car provide a clearance of 38 cm between the ground and the bottom of the car. Finally, the car has a 135 kWh battery with fast charging. In about 20 minutes, the battery charges for about 200 km of battery life and goes from 10% to 80% in 45 minutes. As we can see, Rivian’s first car is a solid SUV offering a good quality standard. Unfortunately, the price of the car is quite high for Brazilian realities: in the US it costs 77,500 US dollars, which is approximately equal to 387 thousand reais in direct conversion.
