Startup Runway has launched an iOS app that lets you edit videos using Generative AI. Dubbed Gen-1, the app allows users to edit their videos in a variety of ways. As you might expect, the app doesn’t always work properly, but some of the creations are impressive.

As AIs become the ultimate personal assistants, more and more apps are integrating AI into their designs. As of now, Runway Gen-1 does not have a confirmed version for Android devices. Below you can see four renders of Al Pacino’s iconic scene from the 1995 film Fire and Flame.
Of course, not all results are interesting. Suggested edits often lead to strange results, with errors and completely changing the video. Either way, the results are impressive and open up several possibilities for future video editing.
According to Runway CEO Cristobal Valenzuela, despite the errors in the first version of the application, it is important to launch the tool in a mobile format. “That’s why a mobile phone makes so much sense, because you record directly from your device and then tell Gen-1 how to convert the video,” Valenzuela commented in an interview with The Verge.
For now, the app allows simple video editing. Users can only work with videos up to 5 seconds long.. Video processing after selecting a hint takes about 3 minutes, depending on the power of the device. In addition, it is not possible to create any kind of nudity or use copyrighted material using AI.
Despite a recent launch, Runway has already confirmed that it is working on a second version of the app that will improve editing quality and reduce processing time. If you are interested and want to test Gen-1 on your iOS device, you can download the app from this link.
