ABOUT Google announced last Thursday, the 20th, that its calling platform meet now allows more than one person to share presentations at the same time. This new feature has been added to Google Slides, which has already been integrated into the program in 2021, and opens up new opportunities for meetings.

The main host can designate the other participants in the call as a kind of “co-host”. They will be able to navigate slides, start and stop media sharing and check who is currently watching, as well as view information on a separate screen. The feature will not be available to those who only have a personal Google account.

Its usefulness covers several scenarios such as remote classes or corporate meetings. For example, if you’re in charge of giving a speech, but someone else has the files, they no longer need to present them alone and you have to ask them to fast forward or rewind the slides.

In addition to providing a smoother transition and reducing distractions, the update helps you in situations where you have maximum time to showcase your work. Not only that, it removes the risk of you having to abort it if the person who has media sharing turned on has internet problems.

How to use the new tool?

To enable the function, a computer with Google Chrome browser is required. When launching the presentation, select “Add co-host” from the people panel menu and voila, you have already granted these permissions to the colleague you selected.

The new role is available to Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, Teaching and Learning Upgrade, and nonprofit customers; and is not available for Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Education Fundamentals, Education Standard, Frontline, or legacy G Suite Basic and Business clients.
