The writer who sued Donald Trump for allegedly having broken Nearly 30 years ago, she told jurors in a civil trial on Wednesday that the former president of the United States raped her and slandered her by lying about it.
“I am here because Donald Trump raped me, and when I wrote about it, he lied and said that it did not happen,” E. Jean Carroll said in a Manhattan federal court. “He lied and ruined my reputation and I’m here to try get my life back“.
Carroll, 79, a former advice columnist for Elle magazine, is looking for compensation No damages are known from Trump, 76, who is leading the Republican presidential contenders in the 2024 campaign.
The lawsuit concerns an alleged meeting in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in late 1995 or early 1996, in which, she says, Trump raped her until she could escape.

Carroll sued Trump for libel after he denied her allegation of rape in an October post on his Truth Social platform, claiming he didn’t know her, wasn’t her “type” and that she forced him to sell your memories.
She also filed a lawsuit under the New York Adult Victims of Crime Act, which allows adults to sue their alleged perpetrators long after the statute of limitations expires.
At Bergdorf, Carroll recalled that she was leaving the store when Trump recognized her and raised his hand, urging her to stop. Carroll said she and Trump were joking, calling his tone “joking” when the businessman tried to buy underwear for another woman.
According to Carroll, Trump asked her to try on underwear, and she joked that he should try it on. Trump then ushered her into an open locker room, closed the door, pinned her against the wall, and pulled her stockings off.

Trump’s fingers “entered my vagina, which was extremely painful.” extremely painful“and also “inserted his penis,” he said. “As I sit here today, I can still feel it.”
Carroll tried to hold back tears as she described pushing him away.
Asked by his lawyer if he said no to Trump, Carroll replied, “I don’t remember saying that. Maybe he said it.” She added that at the time she blamed herself and feared she would lose her job and that Trump would get revenge if she reported him.
A jury of six men and three women is expected to decide whether to hold Trump liable for damages, and if so, how much he owes.

Trump will not be present at the trial, nor is he required to. But the former president continued his criticism of Carroll in two posts Wednesday on Truth Social, prompting federal judge Lewis Kaplan to warn him that he could get into further legal trouble if he continues to talk about the case.
“Does anyone think that I will lead a then unknown woman of almost 60 years from the front door of a very busy department store (being very famous myself, to put it mildly!), To a tiny fitting room?” Trump wrote. “She didn’t scream? Are there no witnesses? Nobody has seen?”.
Trump also called Carroll’s accusations “invented scamand said, “This is a fraudulent and false story… A witch hunt!”
