India is one of the largest military powers in the world, with a huge arsenal of weapons and equipment. In recent years, India has been actively developing its military technologies, including unmanned underwater vehicles. In this context, the Indian institute DRDO (Defense Research and Development Organization) began the development of XLUUV, a very large underwater unmanned vehicle.

The XLUUV will be approximately 50 meters long and weigh approximately 300 tons with a payload. It is equipped with a diesel generator and batteries that will keep it running for 45 days at sea without recharging. The maximum underwater speed will be at least 8 knots (14.8 km/h) and the cruising speed will be more than 4 knots (7.4 km/h).

The XLUUV will be equipped with a variety of sensors, including sonar, multi-beam sonar, and communications systems including SATCOM and underwater communications systems. These technologies will allow the drone to communicate with other platforms and control stations.

The modular design of the XLUUV will allow it to be used in a variety of combat missions. It can scout, destroy mines and attack enemy naval ships with torpedoes.

XLUUV is being developed with the support of the Indian Navy and private companies. The first prototype of the unmanned underwater vehicle is expected to be ready for testing by 2025.

The development of unmanned underwater vehicles could be of great importance in India’s military doctrine. This technology will enable the Indian Navy to operate more efficiently under various conditions. In addition, the development and production of the XLUUV could serve as an example to other countries interested in creating unmanned underwater vehicles.
