Paying users can now choose better 1080p video quality in Google Meet.
After Zoom and Microsoft Teams, Google Meet now also supports video quality in 1080p. The only requirement is that you have a paid subscription to Google Workspace or Google One.
The 1080p quality is initially only available on the web version of Google Meet. Of course, your webcam must also support this video quality in order to be able to use it. A higher resolution automatically results in a higher upload, which requires more bandwidth. Google emphasizes that it will always switch back to 720p or lower if your internet quality isn’t up to par.
By default, the feature is not enabled. During a video call you have to click on the three dots in the top right and there HD video activate below institutions.
The higher video quality is available to all users on the following plans: Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Teaching and Learning Upgrade, Education Plus, Enterprise Essentials, and Frontline. The feature is also available to anyone with a Google One subscription with at least 2TB of cloud storage.
Over the past month, all Google Workspace plans have seen a significant price increase for both existing and new customers. More details can be found here.
