The telecom infrastructure restoration program is based on the implementation of the fifth generation wireless mobile communication – 5G.
Deputy Prime Minister for Innovations, Education, Science and Technology Development – Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov said this in an interview with Ukrinform.
“There is one major obstacle – the Russian occupation. Also, the situation is that the frequencies required for 5G are used by the military. However, the telecommunications infrastructure restoration program is of course based on 5G,” he said.
Fedorov stated that a total of 3 thousand mobile base stations of the operators were damaged and the damage to the sector was estimated at 2.5 billion dollars. Some of them, located in unoccupied territories, have been restored – they are already working.
As reported, the Ministry of Statistics plans to explore with Nokia the possibilities to modernize Ukraine’s telecommunications infrastructure to the latest technologies such as 5G and increase the bandwidth of networks with Ukrainian customers and partners.
