In 2023, over 13,000 unaccompanied children were detained in the United States.

At least 13 thousand 478 children According to official data compiled by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), unaccompanied migrants from Central America’s Northern Triangle were detained by authorities at the US southwestern border in the first two months of 2023.

Figures from the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) show that in January there were 5,992 child detentions and in February, 7,486.

Of the total unaccompanied minors, 1,529 were from El Salvador, 4,563 from Guatemala and 7,386 from Honduras.

Figure for the first two months of 2023 this is down about 2.7% from 13,852 cases in 2022.. In January of the same year, 5,966 arrests were registered, and in February, 7,486.

Detentions of unaccompanied children accounted for 23.9% of the total number of detainees registered between January and February, which they reached 56,333.
