According to the company, its global sales in the last 12 months increased by 1% to 9.61 million vehicles and its global production increased by 6.5% to 9.13 million.
The record numbers came as Toyota accelerated its transformation under a new president.
In the company’s first leadership change in 14 years, former Lexus division head Koji Sato was replaced this month by Akio Toyoda, a member of Toyota’s founding family.
While the majority of Toyota’s current sales are hybrid and petrol vehicles, Sato said the company will increase sales of electric vehicles as part of the move to a wider range of vehicles that reduce carbon emissions.
