The company’s expectation in launching this update for video calls made through the platform is to make Google Meet an even more comprehensive tool in terms of user experience, which justifies the various improvements the tool has received in recent months.

Only subscribers will have access to 1080p

However, it is important to be aware of the fact that The 1080p resolution limit is not available to all users. This is because the quality of the video call also depends on the user’s subscription through Google Workspace.

This means that personal accounts are still limited to 720p quality video calls.. For those who subscribe to the Google service, you need to activate the 1080p option in Google Meet calls. Disabled by default, it will be available in meetings between two people.

Those who meet the Google Meet subscription prerequisites must also ensure they have the necessary hardware to be able to make 1080p calls. Among them is the need for a camera capable of this quality, in addition to a computer good enough to capture the image.

Google has indicated that streaming and viewing calls in 1080p requires additional bandwidth. If the user’s connection speed is limited, Meet will automatically change the resolution so as not to degrade the call quality.

The company said 1080p resolution will be available to Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Teaching and Learning Upgrade, Education Plus, Enterprise Essentials, and Frontline subscribers, as well as Google One 2TB subscribers.
