Proximus will review the tariffs for companies and private customers in autumn. It would be the second price increase that the telecom operator is conducting this year.

Telecoms provider Proximus announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2023 at 7 a.m. this morning. Between January 1 and March 31, 11,000 fixed internet customers were added to a total of 2.22 million and ten thousand mobile subscriptions, where Proximus now has 4 .8 million from . These customers led to a sales increase of 5.9 percent to one and a half billion euros.

Nevertheless, Proximus’ net profit fell by more than twenty percent. This is due to the provider’s significant investments in fiber optics and 5G. The provider has also pledged €20.5 million to acquire Edpnet, although the deal is ongoing.

Proximus claims to have fiber optics in almost a quarter of households, although fewer than 300,000 customers actually buy it. In order to compensate for the falling profit, Proximus is examining whether “further value optimization” is necessary. In plain language: the prices will most likely rise again.

New price increase

Proximus recently pushed through price increases. Since January, the prices for Internet and mobile phone packages have risen by three to five euros. How much more could be added remains to be seen. Proximus claimed the right to index professional subscriptions twice a year and the provider already appears to be doing so.

Proximus mobile phone subscriptions were also recently revised. Read this article to see what the new formulas for business customers look like. The operator wants to offer higher speeds for the higher prices. In February, the company began rolling out 10 Gbps fiber in five Belgian cities, which in practice is actually “8.5 + 1.5 Gbps” fiber. Proximus wants to have this faster fiber optic internet installed nationwide by the summer.
