Xiaomi is the only major Android OEM that continues to run a public beta program for its mobile software MIUI. But over the past few years, the company has been gradually limiting the availability of beta versions.
Since the company ended the MIUI Global Beta initiative in 2019, it has also restricted the program in China. The latest example of this is an official post from Xiaomi itself on the community forum.
Xiaomi announced earlier today that it is suspending the MIUI beta program for its latest-generation tablets, the first foldable flagship, three lifestyle phones, and several popular budget models.
These devices are listed below.
- Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 5G
- Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro
- Xiaomi Pad 5
- Xiaomi Mixed Fold
- Xiaomi 12X
- Xiaomi Mix 4
- Xiaomi Civil
- Xiaomi Civil 1S
- Redmi Note 11 Pro
- Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus
The above smartphones and tablets will no longer receive the weekly MIUI betas from August 4th. By then most of these products will be 2 years old.
Usually, when Xiaomi stops the beta version of a device, it means the end of software support is near. These products may only receive one major software update in the near future.
This is sad news for Xiaomi Pad 5 series users as people have been using their tablets for more years than smartphones. Xiaomi has historically been known for providing poor software support for tablets. We expected this to change with the resurgence of tablets, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
The termination of the beta version of these devices will not affect users worldwide. But if you’re one of the few users who download these beta builds, it’s time to switch to the stable channel.
