Prasad will serve a three-year sentence
Theft, fraudulent purchases of spare parts and tax evasion did not please Prasad. In addition to being sentenced to pay more than what was stolen, the Indian man will serve 3 years in prison. According to the US Department of Justice (DOJ), Prasad betrayed Apple’s trust and he abused his power to enrich himself at the expense of the company while still receiving his salary.
In its decision, the Justice Department noted that Prasad took advantage of his position as a buyer and used insider information about Apple’s fraud detection methods to cover up his criminal activities. “Due to his position at Apple, Prasad has been given considerable discretion to make his own decisions in the interests of his employer.” The 55-year-old man pleaded guilty in November 2022 and was awaiting a court decision. Of the $19 million in restitution for his conviction, $17,398,104 is for Apple and $1,872,579 is for the IRS.
