Brave Search is a search service from Brave Software, the developer of the Brave browser. As you can see, everything is brave in Brave and from now on it is 100% about its seeker, who is getting rid of the last “guilty residue” he still carried inside him.
In fact, it is worth noting that, unlike other alternative search engines such as DuckDuckGo, Brave Seach decided to be independent from the beginning, with the understanding independence in search results that it offers its users and their origins. But it is not so easy to set up a competent search engine, and to improve its quality, the company had to rely on more consolidated options.
Thus, Brave Search used the indexing of Bing, Microsoft’s search engine, to supplement its own web scans. Very little in fact: barely 13% of the results served by Brave Search in its first year on the market came from Bing. A year later, the percentage was reduced to 7% and now it is disappearing completely.
According to the Brave blog, “by default Brave Search users now receive 100% of Brave Index results, which provide users with fully independent results. As always, our results preserve user privacy,” they explain.
It should be noted that when it comes to privacy, there was never a difference between Brave’s own results or those indexed by Bing, because when they appear on the screen, they have already been anonymized by the search engine. This is a significant step in terms of independence for Brave Search as an alternative and therefore for all users.
After all, Brave Search is constantly improving and striving for more: without recent data, it already performed more than 4,500 million searches per year a year ago, recently launched an advertising – yes, privacy-respecting – and premium plan, and they are already working on their own system and artificial intelligence with Summarizer.
Still haven’t tried it? If you’re a Brave browser user, the default option is Brave Search, but it’s a search service you can use with any browser, and while its performance isn’t the best – that’s the main complaint I have – the quality of the results and the options you have are very good. Give him a chance, it never hurts.
