As Ukrinform reported with reference to Kyodo, the issue of standards for responsible use of AI is one of the priorities at the two-day ministerial meeting in Takasaki, northwest of Tokyo.

The five principles include:

• rule of law;
• proper processing;
• compliance with democratic norms;
• respect for human rights;
• Using AI capabilities for innovation.

It is assumed that these principles will be included in a joint statement after the meeting.

“While the development of artificial intelligence technology can make business more efficient and productive, it can create unexpected challenges for democracy,” Japan’s Minister of Digital Technology, Taro Kono, quoted Kyodo before the meeting.

The rapid pace of AI development has underlined the need for international standards to govern the technology, as many countries today have difficulty regulating the use of OpenAI ChatGPT at their discretion due to privacy concerns.

For example, Italy imposed a temporary ban on ChatGPT last month and later lifted the ban, citing concerns about the unauthorized collection of personal data.

G7 ministers also plan to adopt an action plan to promote the responsible use of AI and demand broad participation from all stakeholders in the development of international standards.

In addition, ministers are expected to adopt a separate action plan on Internet governance, which will specifically address issues of countering the spread of fake news and other forms of disinformation widely used by Russia to support its aggression against Russia. Ukraine
