The Twitter accounts of NDTV, one of India’s largest broadcasters, and news agency ANI were suspended, but reopened the same day after their announcement.
This was reported by Reuters, Ukrinform reports.
The reason for the temporary blocking of NDTV and ANI is currently unknown. None of these Indian companies receive funding from the government.
In early April, several international media outlets, including the US National Public Radio and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), stopped posting on their Twitter accounts after being labeled “government-sponsored” by the social network. These tags were later removed.
In January, Twitter said it would only suspend accounts for serious or persistent and repeated violations of its platform’s policies, but left the decision open to appeal.
As reported by Ukrinform, many media accounts on Twitter have cleared of signs confirming their affiliation or funding.
