Roketsan company is developing a new UMTAS-GM anti-tank missile with increased range. This was reported by SavunmaSanayiST. Murat Second, the general manager of the company, spoke about the development. Answering a journalist’s question about the 40 secret projects the company is working on, Roketsan noted that it continues to develop and attaches special importance to the export of its products.
“We try to reflect all the income from exports as a research and development resource for investment in our infrastructure and new projects. Our armed forces need these 40 projects in the future… One of them is a version of the UMTAS-GM missile. The prototype is already ready and testing continues. The UMTAS-GM version will actually increase the range of our UMTAS anti-tank missile, especially with its ability to fire from helicopters and land vehicles.said.

The company aims to launch a product that can occupy a large part of the international market and provide an advantage to the Turkish army as soon as possible.
“Our goal is to deliver the UMTAS-GM, which will be able to start mass production by the end of this year, to our users.Murat Second added it.
Regarding the company’s other projects, Ikinji emphasized that all of them were developed in accordance with the calendar. The publication emphasized that the implementation of the UMTAS-GM anti-tank missile project will significantly increase the capabilities of the Turkish armed forces and should close the need for anti-tank weapons. In addition, UMTAS-GM is planned to be used in Turkish ATAK-II attack helicopters.
It was also noted that Turkey, in a sense, is trying to create a rival to Israel’s Spike-NLOS complex. UMTAS missiles with infrared guided head and L-UMTAS with laser guided head. The range of these missiles is up to 8 km. The updated missile needs to have a much longer range to hit the target. Technical parameters have not been disclosed at the moment, but they emphasize that this is probably related to updating the missile’s guided head. Roketsan has done many research studies to offer a new solution.
As it will be remembered, the engines of the new ATAK-II heavy attack helicopter were launched for the first time in Turkey the previous day. Ukrainian aviation engines were installed on the prototype. Turkish company Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) is working to create a combat helicopter. Source
