Huawei is said to be working with ZTE and BOE to develop a next-generation foldable smartphone with under-display selfie cameras. Selfie cameras below the screen are not common for sophisticated smartphones. The main flexible OLED display of the Mate X3 has a visible hole. A new prototype of Huawei with a selfie camera under the screen has appeared. A prototype of the Huawei x ZTE UDC folding smartphone has surfaced on Digital Chat Station via Weibo.
The Huawei Mate X3 has a fold-in design, and Huawei’s new prototype will provide significant improvements in this regard. The new prototype uses UDC display technology. The prototype reportedly features BOE’s latest and improved flexible display. Although the concept is believed to come from Huawei, it was said that the main screen will be from ZTE. It looks like Huawei’s cooperation with BOE and ZTE can provide the best UDC technology for Huawei’s next-generation sophisticated device.
Huawei’s next-generation foldable smartphone is said to have the same large form factor as the yet-to-be-released Google Pixel Fold, in addition to minimal bezels. The new foldable display of the Q8 has a resolution of 2480 x 1116 pixels with 1440Hz PWM dimming. To put it in perspective, the Huawei Mate X3 had a screen resolution of 2496×2224 pixels.
Under-display selfie cameras may finally come to foldable phones as Huawei partners with ZTE and BOE
No official statement was made from both companies about the Huawei x ZTE complex flagship, which is the subject of rumors. There is no word yet on the expected release date of the model. In fact, it is unclear whether the prototype will reach the production model. However, if the leak is credible, more optics are expected in the foldable smartphone prototype leaked from Huawei.
