Apple has urged a London court to block a $2 billion class action lawsuit accused of hiding defective batteries in millions of iPhones by “silencing” them with software

Apple has urged a London court to block a $2 billion class action lawsuit accused of hiding defective batteries in millions of iPhones by “silencing” them with software updates.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by Reuters.

The lawsuit against Apple was filed by consumer lawyer Justin Gutman on behalf of iPhone users in the UK. Accordingly, the total amount of compensation is 1.6 billion liras plus interest.

Plaintiff’s lawyers allege that Apple hid battery problems on some phone models and “secretly” installed a power management tool that limits performance.

In its written arguments, Apple said the lawsuit was “unjustified” and categorically denied that iPhone batteries were defective, except for a small number of iPhone 6s models where it offered free battery replacements.

The company also says that a power management update rolled out in 2017 to manage stale or weak battery demands reduced iPhone 6 performance by only 10% on average.

As reported by Ukrinform, Quanta Computer, the main manufacturer of MacBooks for Apple, will set up a $120 million factory in the northern province of Vietnam.
