An international team of astronomers has discovered two super-Earth-type exoplanets orbiting the red dwarf TOI-2095, a neighbor of the Solar System. The discovery was reported in a preprint of an article published on the arXiv repository. The planets were found with the help of the TESS space telescope, which was looking for extrasolar celestial bodies by the transit method – it detected a decrease in the brightness of the stars caused by the passage of a large object against the background of the illumination disk. Photometric observations and measurements of the radial velocity of the star TOI-2095 proved that the transit signals in its state have a planetary nature.
The closest exoplanet to the star, designated TOI-2095 b, is about 0.1 AU from it. It is about 25 percent larger than Earth and has an orbital period of 17.66 days. The equilibrium temperature of TOI-2095 b was 347 Kelvin, and its mass was no more than 4.1 times the mass of the Earth.
The second planet in the system, TOI-2095 c, has a radius of about 1.33 Earth radii and orbits its host at a distance of about 0.137 AU every 28.17 days. from it the equilibrium temperature of TOI-2095 is about 297 Kelvin, and its maximum mass has been calculated to be 7.4 Earth masses.
TOI-2095’s parent star is about 56 percent smaller and less massive than the Sun. Its age is estimated to be at least one billion years. Both planets are located in the inner edge region of the red dwarf zone and are considered attractive targets for further research by scientists.
