ASUS introduced a new mini-PC that combines a passive cooling system with low-power Intel Alder Lake N-series processors used in budget notebooks or compact computers.
Intel N’s are designed for basic computing, web browsing, multimedia entertainment and basic computing. They are not the best in terms of performance, but they have their advantage TDP consumption 6W. Despite its small dimensions, a passive cooling system is sufficient, avoiding the installation of fans, which reduces noise and dust ingress.
The ASUS ExpertCenter PN42 chassis has a very limited size 127 x 132 x 57 mm and can be opened without the need for maintenance and upgrade tools. You can install Intel N100 or N200 processors and up to 32 GB of DDR4-3200 memory. For storage, it has an M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 3 x4 for SSD drives up to 2 TB in size.
Pretty good connectivity like most of these compacts Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.0 for wireless connections and a large number of ports on the front and back:
It also has a configurable port that can be used to add additional USB-C, COM, VGA, DisplayPort, HDMI or 2.5GbE Ethernet ports. The ASUS ExpertCenter PN42 can power multi-monitor systems, up to two screens with 4K resolution or 3 lower resolution screens simultaneously.
One of the design details can be seen on the power button with RGB lighting, which is supposed to show the user the status of the computer in six different colors that indicate the correct status or various errors during startup or operation. ASUS ships the machines with a 60-watt power adapter.
The mini-PC comes pre-installed with Windows 11 Pro and includes the new ASUS Control Center app as a centralized IT management software for businesses, which is one of its uses as it can really be used for any basic computing task, office or consumer desktop. No price was given, but it must be pretty cheap. And if you need more power, ASUS has a nice number of compacts in its catalog, like the one we presented to you last week in collaboration with GEEKOM and in a rather powerful configuration based on AMD’s Ryzen 9 6900HX.
