PL fake news
This decision by the STF is in response to an investigation into Big Tech’s possible actions against Fakes News PL, which aims to combat the spread of false information on social media. The law is currently being debated in the National Congress, and some technology companies, including four named in the decision, have publicly opposed the project.
From the testimonies of the presidents of the companies, it is necessary to find out whether there were any concerted actions to prevent the approval of the project, or whether there was some kind of manipulation of public opinion. The STF’s decision is indicative of the Brazilian authorities’ concern about misinformation and the need to regulate the use of social media.
