AMD is determined to take on Apple in the notebook sector and has officially announced its Ryzen 7040U line of processors, one model of which is Ryzen 7 7840Uwhich is intended to compete with the Apple M2. This is the company’s second big announcement for this segment after some Ryzen Z1s aimed at x86-based portable consoles.

It should not be forgotten that Apple revolutionized the notebook sector with its own ARM-based processors, which, at least on paper, were positioned as the best combination of professional performance and long autonomy. But AMD is not willing to back down and wants to offer this combination of performance and efficiency as well, but without abandoning the x86 architecture.

AMD published a chart where you can see a comparison between Ryzen 7 7840U and Apple M2. Here, the Ryzen processor is shown to be better in web browsing, image editing, 3D rendering and responsiveness, but especially in multithreading and in the Passmark 10 performance test, where it outperformed its rival by 72% and 75% respectively.

AMD can’t forget about its long-time rival Intel, with which it also shares a lot (it’s not for nothing that software compiled for x86 works on both companies’ processors). • AMD Ryzen 5 7540U: 6 cores, 12 threads, 3.2 GHz base frequency, 4.9 GHz maximum working speed, 22 MB cache, 15-30 W TDP and integrated Radeon 740M graphics based on the RDNA 3 architecture with 4 CUs.
• AMD Ryzen 3 7440U: four cores, eight threads, 3.0 GHz base frequency, 4.7 GHz maximum operating speed, 12 MB cache, 15-30 W TDP and integrated Radeon 740M graphics based on the RDNA 3 architecture with 4 CUs.
