“Since March, the company has detected more than 1,000 malicious links promoted as tools with about 10 malware families and a popular AI-based chatbot,” the report states.

Meta noted that in some cases, the malware provides ChatGPT functionality that works with malicious files.

Speaking at a press conference about the report, Meta’s Chief Information Security Officer, Guy Rosen, said that “ChatGPT is the new cryptocurrency” for attackers.

Rosen and other Meta executives said the company is preparing defenses against several potential abuses related to productive AI technologies like ChatGPT, which can quickly create human-like text, music and art.

It is stated that these tools can facilitate the spread of disinformation campaigns on the Internet.
