It was made to beg… and more than done, but finally the second part of the awesome Dune by Denis Villeneuve has a title, an official trailer and a release date, although if we’re talking about the first one, they didn’t eat too much: The Dunes: Part 2 it is what it is because it is what it had to be, as the Bene Gesserit would say. Or maybe not.

Be that as it may, and as everyone already knows, this new adaptation of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi classic comes from Denis Villeneuve, the director of films that are as good as they are lackluster: prisoners, arrival either Blade Runner 2049 They are his most famous works. And now DuneOf course, it was not for nothing that he achieved a level of visual pleasure with him, which he approached with the continuation of the replicants, but which ended with embroidery.

And not just visual. As an adaptation, also considering the density of the original novel, Villeneuve also did magnificent work; and he did it with the receipt of the film – this is, after all, the product – of those who, for various reasons, dare to touch difficult material, but in the end come out victorious and convince almost everyone, which is not very usual. days.

We will not increase now Dune to category Lord of the Rings for it did not have the same impact, nor did it develop in the same way: time will put him in his place. But what has been done in recent years is the most remarkable, there is no doubt about that. As for Shared Grace, a quick look at the major platforms can confirm this: an average score of 74-7.9 on Metacritic for critics and audiences, 83%-90% on Rotten Tomatoes, 8 on IMdB…

The Dunes: Part 2

Now of course It’s time to finish the story smoothly, which is the hardest part and The Dunes: Part 2 that’s exactly what it’s about. A curious fact is worth mentioning in this regard, namely that the success of his first part depended on the filming of the second. Or, to put it another way, it didn’t matter how good the movie was, if it failed, we’d be left with half a story.

Fortunately, Villanueve had it all right when he highlighted a cast led by Timothée Chalamet (call me by your name, little woman) starring Paul Atreides, but full of top-notch characters, crushing art and visual sections, a soundtrack composed by the master Hans Zimmer that transports you to Arrakis and almost never to a better place… Complaints have been heard about the pace of the film, but of course they should be from those who have not read Dune.

I don’t scroll anymore, I already did it back then: Dune It was my “best” movie of 2021, and even though I’ve only seen it once, I stand by that opinion. That’s why I hope the latter will do the trick. We’ll find out next time November 3rd, theatrical release date. You can watch the extensive trailer below The Dunes: Part 2but if you want to see the first episode, know that you have it on HBO Max and Movistar +.
