With the Edge 40, Motorola is launching the entry-level model in its new flagship series. The device is available now in Belgium and the Netherlands for EUR 599.99.

Motorola announces the Edge 40 in a press release as a smartphone that actually “swims in style”. With this marketing slogan and exaggerated images, the manufacturer refers to the IP68 rating that is stuck on the device. This label states that you can throw the smartphone in the pool for an occasional dip to see if the device is swimming the breaststroke, front crawl, or butterfly.

Jokes aside, the Motorola Edge 40 is the entry-level model of the Edge 40 Pro, the manufacturer’s newest flagship for this year. If you were to place both devices side-by-side, the Edge 40 is slightly smaller, with a 6.55-inch ‘pOLED’ display. The screen also offers HDR10+, DCI-P3 color space and a refresh rate of 144 Hz. Because a picture is nothing without sound, the smartphone supports room-filling spatial audio.

specifications

Where the Edge 40 Pro is well equipped with four cameras, the Edge 40 keeps it rather modest with two. A 50 MP main camera and a 13 MP wide-angle camera certainly don’t sound bad on paper. There is also a 32 MP for self-portrait lovers or passionate video callers.

When it comes to the processor, Motorola also uses a somewhat more budget-friendly variant with the MediaTek Dimensity 8020. The battery charges with an output of 67 W, which according to the press release provides enough power to charge the 4400 mAh battery for a whole day after just ten minutes of charging. Wireless charging is supported with a power of 15W.

Motorola ships this phone with Android 13, which traditionally doesn’t have too much useless proprietary sauce added to it. We give you access to Motorola Ready For through the device, which allows you to conveniently connect the phone to a laptop. The Moto Secure app adds a layer of security. Two applications that Lenovo likes to use because of the Thinkphone’s unique business character, but which can actually be found in every mid to high-end smartphone from Motorola.

price and availability

The Motorola Edge 40 is available today in three colors: green, blue and black. Our personal favourite Very Peri unfortunately not available this time. The recommended retail price is EUR 599.99 including VAT for 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.
