Former US President Donald Trump said Thursday in Ireland that his trial in New York on charges of rape and subsequent defamation of writer E. Jean Carroll is a “disgrace” and a “political attack.”
The former Republican president made the announcements on the second day of a two-day private visit to County Clare in western Ireland, where he owns Trump International Golf Links and Hotel Ireland.
After playing golf with his son Eric, Trump told the media that he had to end the trip early to return to the US and deal with these complaints, while criticizing his country’s judicial system for handling them.
“It’s a shame that this is allowed against a rich guy or, in my case, a famous, rich and political guy who leads the polls with 40 points,” said the Republican candidate in the 2024 US election.

Trump reiterated that he intends to “deal with” E. Jean Carroll’s allegations, which he says are “a disgrace to a woman.”
“I have to return because of the woman who made false accusations against me, and I have a judge who is extremely hostile (…) This cannot be allowed in our country,” he added.
The former president’s defense announced this Wednesday that he will not be presenting any witnesses in the trial, which is underway in New York for the rape and subsequent defamation of writer E. Jean Carroll.
It was also confirmed on Tuesday that Trump himself would not be present at the trial – powers given to him by Judge Lewis Kaplan himself – and his lawyer Joe Takopina then said he would call an expert witness, but this Wednesday he corrected himself and said he would not appear. due to illness, which was confirmed by several media present in the hall.
So the trial will only proceed with witnesses presented by the prosecution, in which case Judge Kaplan said it’s possible both sides will present their closing arguments to the jury early next week, meaning the end of the trial is near. EFE
