The new authorization method allows you to use your device for authentication instead of a password. To do this, the user can choose to confirm login to the account with a fingerprint, facial recognition or PIN code.

How to configure login without password

An access key can be generated on any device that works like a smartphone. It can also be shared in the cloud. Yes, once you create a key on your iPhone, it will be accessible on any other Apple device through your iCloud account. Dashlane and 1Password support will also appear in the future.

To enable the feature on your computer:

• Sign in to your Google Account, click the apps menu next to your profile picture (the dots in the upper right corner) and select “Account”.
• Next, go to the “Security” tab and in the “How to sign in to your Google account” block select the “Access keys” menu.
• Click the blue Use Access Keys button, then close the notification window.
• Now click “Generate Access Key”.
• The system will prompt you to use the authorization method you have configured on your PC. For example, it could be an account PIN or Windows Hello (face, fingerprint).

A similar connection method is used on a smartphone:

• Go to the Google app and click on your profile picture.
• Select “Account”.
• Find “Security” in the top tabs, then “Access keys”.
• You can see that the access key is generated automatically. If not, do it manually.

This feature is available on devices running iOS 16, Android 9 and higher. When logging in from a computer, a biometric verification request is sent to any compatible device associated with the owner’s account. If you don’t have one or are lost, Google will allow you to gain access using the “Use password from another device” option and will deauthorize keys from all devices.
