With this new feature, you no longer have to create strong passwords for every service and remember them, which can be quite difficult. In addition, passkeys are more resistant to phishing attacks, since you need to have a registered device at hand to gain access to an account, eliminating the need to receive codes via email or SMS.
According to Google, the new authentication system has been in testing since October 2022 and is available for users of Android 9 or higher and iOS 16 or higher. Users can register their password keys by visiting a specific page or by visiting their account settings. You can register multiple devices, but the company does not recommend adding devices that other people use.

End of passwords?
On Apple devices, passkeys are synced via iCloud, making it easy to switch between devices and allow access to accounts on other devices. However, since this new authentication method is still in its infancy and not every device has a biometric system, traditional passwords and two-factor authentication codes will continue to work as usual.
Access keys are an encrypted authentication standard created by the FIDO Alliance, which includes not only Google, but also other tech giants such as Microsoft and Apple. This technology was created to provide an easier and more secure way to access accounts by eliminating the need for strong passwords and two-factor authentication codes.
