Google has officially unveiled its first foldable smartphone to the world: the Pixel Fold. Interestingly, Big Tech used Star Wars Day (May 4th) to reveal the device with the following sentence: “May the fold be with you” (May the Fold be with you, literally translated). The marketing ploy is a play on a classic Star Wars franchise phrase.
Rumors have already indicated that Google will soon introduce the world to a device that promises to have the most durable hinge in the segment, and you can check out more details on the foldable smartphone’s design below:
The company has only revealed the design of the Pixel Fold without providing further details on the device’s specs. However, as we can see in the tweet, Google calls May 10, next Wednesday, an important date. That day will see Google I/O, an event where the company is supposed to unveil the Pixel Fold in more detail, as well as the Pixel 7A, a new entry-level model powered by the Tensor G2 chipset.
May the Pixel Fold be with you
It was an interesting marketing ploy to use May 4th as the moment to introduce the Pixel Fold to the world. This date is considered Star Wars Day due to the similarity of the May 4th (May the Fourth) sound to May the Force, the franchise’s iconic catchphrase. A hint that the Fold also resembles the Fourth a bit. Is funny prank that took everyone by surprise.
Rumors suggest that the Pixel Fold will have a 5.8-inch screen that can be expanded into a 7.6-inch panel. Both screens have a 120Hz refresh rate. The chipset should also be Tensor G2, the same as the Pixel 7A. In addition, the company said its foldable model will have the most durable hinge in the segment. The completed specifications of the Pixel Fold will be revealed during Google I/O on May 10th. In the meantime, may the Fold be with you..
