After a long stream of rumors, Google confirms the launch of a foldable Pixel smartphone. The device will be unveiled at next week’s I/O conference.

With a short teaser video of just eight seconds, Google announces the Pixel Fold. At first glance, the device looks like a “regular” Pixel smartphone, until that magical moment when the device unfolds. From the video we can already deduce that the Pixel Fold will have the same form factor as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and it seems that Google wants to compete with this device.

The launch of the Google Pixel Fold has been a long time coming, and rumors about the device are rife around the internet. According to these rumors, the Pixel Fold’s front cover would be 5.8 inches, which you can expand to 7.6 inches when you open the device. The cover display is much smaller than the Galaxy Z Fold 4, measuring 6.2 inches when folded. Google claims to have developed a much more durable hinge.

The processor of the device would come from its own stable: Google puts a second generation of the Tensor processor in its foldable smartphone. The cameras will probably not be upgraded compared to the Pixel 7. On the software side, we can expect an Android version that is better adapted to the smartphone’s larger screen.

Start during Google I/O

The official launch date of the foldable Pixel is May 10th. This is no coincidence during Google I/O 2023. Google will then go into more detail on the specifications and put a price tag on the device. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 costs a whopping £1,799 inc VAT, and we expect the Pixel Fold to be close.

Curious about the foldable Pixel smartphone? We don’t want to give you false hope. Unfortunately, Google has a habit of ignoring Belgium with its Pixel line of products while the devices go on sale in our neighboring countries.

Google I/O launches May 10th. During the opening speech, Google also traditionally announces the latest Android version, this year Android 14. AI is also expected to be a recurring topic of conversation.
