The latest optional update to Microsoft Windows 11 22000.652 (KB5012643) introduced new problems. Users report screen flickering, conductor issues, and more in safe mode. Microsoft recommends removing it and is already working on a fix.
According to BetaNews, Microsoft has updated its website with known issues with Windows 11, adding that some programs using the .NET Framework 3.5 may encounter problems after installing the KB5012643 update. Although the company has not listed all possible problems, one of them describes a situation where programs simply do not open. It is important to note that this does not affect all programs that use the .NET Framework 3.5. This only happens to those who use snap-ins of the .NET Framework 3.5, such as the Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and Windows Workflow (WWF) components.
The solution is to try uninstalling KB5012463 from Windows Update first. If this is not possible, another solution involves re-enabling the Windows components .NET Framework 3.5 and WCF. You can do the same by running the following commands on the command line:
- dism / online / enable feature / feature name: netfx3 / all
- dism / online / enable feature / feature name: WCF-HTTP-Activation
- dism / online / enable feature / feature name: WCF-NonHTTP-Activation
The source adds that both of these actions are just workarounds. Microsoft is working on the release of the next update, but the release date has not been announced yet. Windows 10 and Windows Server users are also known to have nothing to worry about, as this optional update is only available for Windows 11 version 21H2.
