New Firefox 100 Features

Subtitles and picture-in-picture mode

The new version of Firefox supports picture-in-picture captions when playing videos from YouTube, Prime Video and Netflix. All you have to do is enable the subtitles in the web player used for playback and they will be displayed when you switch to picture-in-picture mode. The mod’s subtitles also work when watching videos on other sites that support the WebVTT format.

HDR support for Mac

The browser has received support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) video on Apple Mac computers. To view content in this format, you need a Mac with macOS 11 and later, as well as a monitor with HDR support.

“Chips” for Windows

By default, Firefox for Windows enables hardware acceleration of AV1 video decoding when using a computer with a supported graphics accelerator. For Intel GPU, Video overlay mode is enabled by default, which reduces power consumption when watching videos. The developers have optimized the allocation of resources when drawing and processing events, so interaction with some web elements will be smoother.

Minor fixes

The developers made less noticeable improvements that can be found on Mozilla’s official website. Firefox 100 also fixes several security vulnerabilities, including buffer overflow and free memory.
