With the rise of the Internet and, above all, Google’s dominance as the main search engine on the web, privacy of personal information has become a priority for users.
For this reason, the news that Google announced that it has created a new form that allows you to more easily remove personal data from daily searches has attracted attention.
“Discovering personal information online can be alarming,” Michelle Chang, Google’s global search policy leader, said on the organization’s website.
Chang made it clear that the data could lead to “unintended direct contact and even physical harm.”
The update greatly reduces Google’s requirements to remove data from search results.
Previously, you could only request deletion of personal and financial information in cases of possible identity theft or threats to a person’s integrity.
Now, with the new tool, Google states that you can request the deletion of your personal information even if there is no clear risk.
This accounts for 63,000 search queries per second on the Google search engine, which translates to 5.6 billion searches per day.
On his company blog, Chang explains that anyone can submit a data deletion request.
Ideally, have a set of internet links or URLs with information to be deleted.
Then fill out the form you can find here. Here you are asked to specify whether you want to delete the information of a particular google search or a website.
According to the company, it would be ideal to include screenshots with the request, where the information to be removed can be seen.
“Once we receive the request, we will first of all evaluate all the content of the web page contained in the form to make sure that by deleting this information we do not affect useful content such as an article or news.” explains Chang.
Therefore, the portal explains that some changes cannot be completed.
“If the content appears on public record sites or is owned by a government, we cannot do anything in these situations.”
Among the changes included in the form in this update, you can delete passwords in applications that manage passwords.
In Latin America, the countries most affected by identity theft due to information most of which are found on the Internet are Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico and Brazil.
