The main reason put forward at the time was the blow that CD PROJECT RED, responsible for GOG, had made with cyberpunk 2077a title that is fairly well-regarded today, but at the time of its launch it was pretty broken and had many problems, so much so that many nicknamed it cyber bug 2077. This negative point overshadowed the fact that 2020 was the year with the highest sales revenue due to the bubble caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Digging deeper into the positive numbers the platform reported for 2022, we find that according to its release, the number of active users across all GOG services grew by 11%, with the user base increased by 18% and the net profit achieved was 1.2 million US dollars. It is said that the number of active users of GOG Galaxy remains consistent, indicating that the app may not be the success it was expected to be.

Regarding the distribution of users by region, 53% are located in Europe, 37% in North America, 4% in Asia and 4% in Australia and New Zealand. The rest of the world gathers only 2% of all GOG users, which still has its home continent as the market where it is strongest.

684 titles were released on GOG in 2022, which is a smaller increase than in previous years, but at least the upward trend continues. The platform now has about 7,700 games, DLC and other add-ons in its catalog.

One of GOG’s strengths is that it strives to keep classic video games alive. Here, data from the platform itself shows that in 2022, 1,400 released classics were reached, plus DLC and extras, there were more than 500 titles in the Good Old Games section, and there are fifty iconic classic titles that are only available on GOG. The customer satisfaction ratio is 90.7%, the unit redeemed ratio was 1.8% and a total of 201,500 support tickets were resolved.

As we can see, GOG seems to have reestablished a good path in the general levels, especially when it comes to getting benefits, even if they are not very high. This is good news for the main digital platform for DRM-free video games and the largest European exponent of the sector.
