Beta versions of WhatsApp have become in recent years the best source of information on what features Meta is working on and that they are not yet official. Either because what you want to test is enabled in those versions, or because a reference to that new feature is added in the code of said application, there are a large number of spoofs that will scrutinize all of these new versions, looking for and capturing any signs of a message.

As a general rule, most features come to Android betas first, although some debut in the iOS app, and the native Windows app usually always takes third place in this classification, since it also tends to have some delay in receiving said messages when it comes to apps for system mobile operators. On the other hand, it is understandable, since the majority of the use of the service is concentrated in smartphones, which are also its original ecosystem.

However, the web version of WhatsApp is gaining momentum over time. I don’t have global data, but when I look at those in my immediate area, I see that the most common way of use is the one that combines an Android or iOS app with a web interface, which is much more convenient when we are in front of a pc. In my case, whenever I use a computer, I use WhatsApp through its web interface, and it gets to the point that if I have to have at least a long conversation through the service, I go back to the computer if I’m not with it at the time.

However, this version has not yet had a public beta. However, that is now in the past and that’s it Meta has started rolling out the beta version of WhatsApp. Two conditions are necessary to access it. The first is to have at least version 2.2318.11 of the WhatsApp site, and the second, which no longer depends on us, is that our user account of the service is among those already deployed.

You can check this (and activate it if you have the option and wish to do so) as follows:

  1. Go to the WhatsApp website via the usual URL and sign in if you haven’t done so before.
  2. In the main interface, click the three vertical dots displayed to the right of the avatar image in the upper left corner of the interface.
  3. In the menu that appears, click on “Settings”, then scroll to the bottom of the list of options and click on “Help”.
  4. If the beta version is already available for your account, then you will see an option to “Join Beta” at the bottom left. Just mark it and you’re in, which you can confirm visually as the text “Beta” will appear to the right of your avatar image.

At this moment, there is no news in the beta version of the WhatsApp website with respect to the normal version, but that makes sense since this mode was just deployed. It’s worth keeping an eye on, though, because that’s where sooner or later progress will start to show. In my case, I was lucky and it was already activated, so I will be more careful than ever.
