A playground equipment manufacturer in April MSI confirmed to be the victim of a cyber attack . The company said in a brief statement on its website that the attack targeted “part of its information systems” but has since returned to normal operations.
The company advises customers to only get BIOS and firmware updates from the MSI website, not from any other source. However, a recent allegation of a UEFI key leak could reflect badly on thousands of MSI users.
Important Intel code may have been leaked
After the attack in April, details began to emerge slowly. Cybersecurity experts investigating the leak believe that the Boot Guard keys that Intel uses to block fake UEFI software and altered BIOS may have been stolen.
It is said that computers of brands such as Lenovo and Supermicro, especially MSI motherboards, are affected by a total of 1.5TB data leaks.
It is thought that UEFI keys can be used to bypass antivirus programs due to this leak, which can cause serious problems. According to experts, any software installation that leaks Boot Guard keys in phishing email attacks can be ignored by antiviruses.
