Amazon Japan has launched (they say by mistake) the Google Pixel Tablet, one of the new hardware products the internet giant will showcase at its I/O developer conference.

Google dominates the Android smartphone market, but doesn’t have the same presence in other mobile devices like tablets, where Apple makes most of its revenue and profits with its iPads. Last year Google has taken a step forward to close the gap with the launch of the Android 12 tablet variant, and in the past Google I/O confirmed the development of its own brand of hardware. And it’s very close to launch.

Amazon’s Japanese division accidentally launched a new tablet. And what better source of leakage than a big retailer. The post was deleted, but that didn’t stop Japanese media from getting information. The Google Pixel tablet will have a screen 10.95 inch LCD with resolution 2560 x 1600 pixels. With a pixel density of 276 PPI and an aspect ratio of 16:10, it will be compatible with styluses according to the USI 2.0 standard.

The Google Pixel Tablet won’t just be a tablet, it will also act as one smart home devices once it’s attached to the dock, we don’t know if it will be sold together or separately. As we expected, once the device is connected to the base, it will be able to transform into a Google Nest Hub screen, which is also confirmed by the images from Amazon.

Custom SoC Tensioner G2 and the Titan M2 coprocessor, will be the main engines of the device. It will have 8GB of LPDDR5 memory and 128GB and 256GB storage options. In terms of connectivity, we see Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 and UWB. It will also have a USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port for data and charge a good capacity battery with 27 Wh. Cameras, less important in tablets than in smartphones, will have a simple 8MP sensor, the same for both the back and the front.

As for the software, Google is known to be testing a version Android 13 64-bit only for a device codenamed “Tangor” believed to correspond to this custom tablet. Among the benefits of stopping 32-bit app support is that it would reduce the codebase needed for this Pixel’s optimized Android, as well as usage like memory.

The price assigned by Amazon Japan for the new Google tablet is approximately ¥79,800 $590 to replace. Google will sell other accessories, such as a stylus, keyboard cover and docking station, which would turn the tablet into a Nest Hub-like smart home device. All indications are that the Google Pixel Tablet will be announced at Google I/O 2023 from May 10.
