At the beginning of April, Google launched Nearby Share as a beta for Windows. Most of the world was able to get started with the AirDrop competitor, but the entire EU fell by the wayside. Nearby Share is built into your Android phone and allows you to share files quickly and easily with a Windows computer. To do this, you need to download an app and log in (with or without a password). If you’re signed in to the same Google account on your computer and phone, and both devices are nearby, you can send files to your PC without additional confirmation. It’s even possible to quickly transfer entire folders.
Although Apple released similar features twelve years ago, Nearby Share is still in beta. You need a computer running Windows 10 or 11 to enjoy it. Your phone should be running at least Android 6, which hopefully won’t be a problem.
