Google is actively working on Android 14, the next version of its well-known operating system for mobile devices, which will hit the market this year. Over the last few weeks, we’ve been telling you some of its most exciting news, and today we can confirm a very important improvement that revolves around new foreground API policy.
If you’re lost, don’t worry, I’ll explain clearly what exactly we’re talking about. When we launch an application or service, it can be in the foreground, if we continue to actively use it, or in the background if we do not close it but use another application or service. Foreground apps consume more resources because they are fully active, while background apps are the opposite.
Receiving notifications and displaying them for the user to see causes the application or service to move from the background to the foreground, requiring tuned policy system to work properly. Any bugs or glitches can lead to errors and delays, which of course can be very annoying.

For example, think about what would happen if you receive a notification late that you have a new message on social networks, a new WhatsApp or a new message on Telegram. But it doesn’t stop there and this type of error can also affect the GPS connection, causing audio errors and connection failures.
Well, that’s where this new foreground API policy that Google and Samsung are preparing according to the news source comes into play, whichIt will be implemented in Android 14 and OneUI 6.0 customization layer which, as many of our readers are sure to know, is used by the South Korean company on its smartphones and tablets. In this sense, Samsung noted that:
“To strengthen the Android platform, our collaboration with Google has led to a unified policy that we hope will create a more consistent and reliable user experience for Galaxy device users. With One UI 6.0, services at the forefront of Android 14-focused apps will be guaranteed work as expected if they are developed according to the new Android Foreground Service API policies.
the new policy will be mandatory for all Android 14 devicesso it won’t be exclusive to the Samsung Galaxy range, it will improve the reliability and operation of apps that need to work using foreground services and it will be enabled by default, which means it won’t require any type of user intervention.
