At the end of May, Synology will not only stop supporting older versions of its DiskStation Manager, but will also remove it entirely from its website.
Older versions of DiskStation Manager (DSM) will be completely removed from Synology’s website later this month. Logically, the company will no longer support the operating systems for its NAS devices from now on. This also means that users of older Synology NAS will soon no longer receive upgrades.
Synology itself remains quite vague about this clearance campaign. It would have to do with license agreements. Specifically, it affects DSM 6.2.3 and older.
The company recommends users of older DSMs (from version 5.0) to upgrade to the latest version. If your system is running even older firmware, it is best to download version 6.2.3 if you plan to reset your NAS in the future. In this case, do not wait for weeks, because this is no longer possible from May 31st. New firmware is then only available as an upgrade for a DSM from 6.2.4, but it will not work on a NAS with EOL (End-of-Life) status anyway.
In addition to these older DSMs, Synology is also removing outdated versions of software like Video Station, Media Server, and Audio Station from the website. Synology doesn’t so subtly encourage users to upgrade to the latest versions of its operating system and software.
