The GPD Win Max 2 is a new version of a compact notebook from a company that specializes in producing “unique” machines. The model in question was supposed to be the most powerful “pocket” computer in the industry. And we’re talking about the past, because the increase in screen size makes it less manageable for what it’s main job is, gaming, but it’s even more powerful to compensate.
The new Win Max will connect the screen 10.1 inches. Multi-touch and capacitive, its native resolution rises to 2560 x 1600 pixels and is compatible with stylus pens with 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity.
Where previous versions were offered with Intel hardware, now the commitment to AMD is complete and includes Ryzen 7000 Mobile processors with the option to equip versions up to Ryzen 7 7840U 8 cores and 16 threads and RDNA 3 Radeon 780M graphics card. Not bad for a “mini” laptop.
It is supplemented with LPDDR5X memory in capacities 32 or 64 GB and for storage it has double M.2 up to 2 TB (expandable up to a total of 16 TB) and also supports SD cards.
Its connectivity also borders on the high level, featuring the latest version of the USB4 port, additional USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type A and Type C, HDMI 2.1 and an audio system with 4 speakers. It supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 and can even be optionally equipped with 4G broadband.
The innovation at this point and its differentiating character naturally stems from its approach as portable gaming machine. In this way, the latest version retains the dual ALPS 3D stick, L3 and R3 click buttons, separate directional buttons, L1 / L2 and R1 / R2 buttons and Panasonic switches.
A compact gaming (or whatever) machine made of premium materials like magnesium and aluminum, weighing just 1 kilogram. Max win GPD 2 will be released in June with the top-of-the-line configuration (Ryzen 7 7840) and a later release of the remaining versions. We don’t know the price, although it won’t be cheap. The series grows in features, size and price, and the current version retails for $1,100 to $1,300.
