With the launch of the Google Pixel 6, Google took the opportunity to launch the Magic Eraser. It was a function that could virtually eliminate any object or person in a photo that was bothering us, with surprising precision and thanks to artificial intelligence. We’re right at Google I/O 2023, and it didn’t take long for the news to reach Google Photos.

The next logical step is to bring even more AI capabilities to this Magic Eraser. So much so that Google no longer tells us about an object removal tool:now we will talk about a full editor. We’re announcing Magic Editor, a function that will arrive on Pixel by the end of the year and hopefully we can enjoy it on other Android phones as well.

Endless possibilities for editing our photos

Magic Editor The next step in Google Photos. It assumes a much deeper integration of image segmentation, which Google can do in the gallery app’s editor. The example he gave us is clear and more than shown in the photo above.

Google can segment almost any part of the image. This opens the door to modifications of each of its parts.

For a generation, Google has managed to separate the figure and the background through its gallery. This is for photographic editing, move the subject to the desired areato center it or place it in the position we choose.

It’s okay to have some items cut off while moving the subject: Google will be able to recreate them using artificial intelligence. In this case, by moving the child with balloons and losing some of this information, they can produce them without the slightest problem.

The integration of Google’s artificial intelligence goes much further: we can do a selective printing by regions. For example, if the day has a certain cloudy hue, we can select the sky and change its appearance. These are just a few of the multiple possibilities this editor will have, designed to process all the useful information the phone collects when taking a photo.

The feature is expected to arrive on the Google Pixel by the end of the year, with no word yet on whether it will eventually reach other Android devices.
