Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner said on Wednesday that the country will join the growing list of countries that have banned the use of Chinese video-sharing app TikTok on work phones by government employees.
As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by Reuters.
“This (TikTok use – ed.) will be banned on business mobile phones. Of course, it will be possible to use the application on private phones outside the government network,” he said.
A number of countries, including the UK, US and EU countries, have already blocked the TikTok app due to security concerns. The EU’s two largest political institutions also banned the practice in March.
TikTok, owned by Chinese firm ByteDance, is under scrutiny by governments and regulators over concerns that the Chinese government could use the app to collect user data or advance its interests, the report said.
As reported by Ukrinform, the Australian government has banned the use of the Chinese application TikTok on all devices belonging to government officials.
